The Top 10 Email Clients of 2015 – mobile opens grow by 30%

As we close the books on 2015, we thought it would be useful to share the evolution of email clients usage – based on data gathered from MessageFocus campaigns sent worldwide.

Spoiler alert: mobile email clients see another fantastic year of growth

We can’t delve into the specifics of the top 10 email clients without first drawing attention to the split between mobile, desktop and webmail clients. While webmail has seen quite stable usage, mobile increased by 13 percentage points. That’s a growth of 30% in just one year!

Outlook loses share to the Apple iOS, Gmail and Android increase as well

Comparing January and December email client usage, Outlook stands out with the most dramatic decrease in shares of 10 percentage points. After a few months of struggle, Outlook lost the top spot to iPhone in July 2015, and the second spot to iPad opens in December.

Meanwhile, Gmail and Android shares have been slowly creeping up – gaining a 25% increase in number of email opens.
