6. Adestra clients and users of MessageFocus

MessageFocus is our enterprise, web-based email marketing platform. MessageFocus provides our clients with a dashboard-style portal from which their email campaigns can be built, tested and distributed. Data and deliverability can be monitored and analysed, and reports may be created via the system and exported for dissemination purposes.

MessageFocus also uses various tracking methods and cookies to monitor your behaviour as a recipient of an email sent using MessageFocus. The list below provides details of how we will track your behaviour through MessageFocus:

Cookie based tracking

Web Analytics reporting

As part of our platform reporting, we also provide our clients with a Web Analytics plug-in which allows them to track where traffic goes on their website after they have clicked on an email communication. This is visible in the clients Web Analytics package alone. We do not control this and it is at our clients’ discretion whether or not to use this Web Analytics plug-in.

MessageFocus Conversion Tracking

This works by placing a cookie on a recipient’s computer or mobile device when they click a link in an email sent via MessageFocus. If a user visits a page that our clients have tagged as being a “conversion page” or revisits that page within two weeks of their initial click of the page, they will be marked as a “conversion” within MessageFocus. Therefore, if you are an Adestra client using MessageFocus Conversion Tracking, you will now need to comply with the Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 by: (i) providing each email recipient a clear and comprehensive information about the purpose and use of the cookies used, and (ii) giving them the opportunity to refuse to its storage or access.

Non-cookie based tracking

Email open tracking

Our MessageFocus email platform uses open tracking to track whether the recipient of an email has downloaded images or not. Open tracking uses a one pixel by one pixel clear GIF image, which is stored as a temporary file on the user’s computer or mobile device. When this image is downloaded, MessageFocus registers the email recipient as having opened an email. This is not used for any other tracking, except for tracking an email open. By subscribing to our communications, you are consenting to us tracking when you open an email.
